JOB AUTHORIZATION: DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Overview

The Director of Music leads and develops the music ministry of the Village Church with a primary emphasis on the traditional music program and ensembles. A key role of the Music Director is to help inspire congregants to make a joyful noise to the Lord, to worship God in Spirit and in truth, and to join in God’s mission in everyday life.

Key Authorizations:

• Direct the Village Church Choir and the Chancel Bell Choir at weekly rehearsals and in Sunday morning worship services. Schedule traditional ensembles and soloists in conjunction with the overall worship. Choose repertoire that is sensitive and supportive of the liturgical calendar, the Biblical and theological themes highlighted in each week’s sermon message, as well as the overall flow and order of worship.
• Creatively plan and coordinate with the Worship Ministries Team, Worship Staff, and musicians to produce engaging worship services centered on Jesus. This includes meetings with the Senior Pastor and a monthly meeting with the Worship Ministries Team. Support, coordinate, and if applicable, participate with the Children’s Music and Contemporary Music programs. Seek ways to collaborate at key points throughout the year.
• Recruit people of all ages to participate in existing and new ensembles or as Contract other musicians as needed throughout the year for special music offerings.
• Oversee and coordinate the maintenance of the musical instruments within the worship department, including the organ, three pianos and hand bells.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Minimum requirement of a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree in one of the following concentrations: conducting, voice or instrumental performance, or music Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience in choral conducting, ideally in a church

SUPERVISOR: The Senior Pastor

SUPERVISES: Organist, Children’s Choir Accompanist, Section-leaders for the Village Church Choir.

PART-TIME POSITION: 19-24 Hours/week. Will submit hours every two weeks.

EDUCATION: Bachelor of Arts in Music in conducting, voice or instrumental performance, or music education. Master's degree preferred.

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

PAY SCALE: $24-$27 p/hour.
